Looking at Vogue front cover ...

This magazine is one of the most well-known magazines in the world. It follows the conventions commonly found in everyday mags.
It has:

• A main image. This large image attracts attention for readers. This magazine always has famous women on it's covers which makes it different to some mags i.e. college mags, NME etc... However, it shares this with magazines such as Cosmopolitan etc...
• The name of the person in the image is the second largest text on the page. This is to confirm who the celebrity on the front cover is.
• The name of the magazine is situated at the top of the page in a large font.
• It has a barcode with the date so that it tells the readers how recent the magazine is.
• The writing on the front is the same colour and same font to make it consistent. It's easy to read and understand.
• The subtitles are trying to encourage the titles of the pieces inside and make you want to read more.

• Main title. This shows that the list below is "what's inside" the magazine.
• Subtitles. Helps the reader to be guided through the magazine and able to select what they want to read easier.
• Page numbers. To tell readers which page to turn to to read what they want and/or what page they are on (found at the bottom right of the page if on a right page and vice versa).
• Images. These aid the advertising of certain articles etc...
• Contact details. For any queries or subscriptions etc...
• Names of people behind the making of the magazine.

• A large main heading/title. Attracts audience and tells them what it's about.
• Sub-headings. Tells the readers what else is included within the magazine which might be of relevant to what they want to know.
• The date. Says how old the issue is and how recent the information will be.
• Main image of student/s. Emphasises what the magazine is mainly about.
• Aimed at teachers. We can assume this from the title of the magazine and the types of information in it.
• Website address. For any other questions/feedback/more information.
• A second smaller image.
  

The Brief

Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally you must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.

Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and text used must be original, produced by you - minimum of four images.

Presentation of your Work
The presentation of the research, planning and evalutation may take the form of any one, or combination of two of mor, of the following:

• a presentation using slideshow software such as PowerPoint;
• a blog
• a podcast;
